Freebeesnow.com coupons and great deals in Brevard FL

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

I recently revisited the site I created for the coupon advertising magazine I own and much to my surprise discovered a comment. Each of the coupons in my magazine Freebees have their own page, with their own comments. I find it boggling that someone interested in purchasing a musical instrument, would search for a local business – find the Freebees website, and then leave a message there!

This speaks volumes for the need for a well designed company website. More and more users opt to preview their shopping list online before heading out and spending time and gasoline to shop around and business without websites are losing business daily. Even traditional brick-and-mortar businesses like music shops need a basic website. They need not spend thousands of dollars putting their entire inventory online, but even just the most basic of sites would ensure that potential leads are not wasted.

Freebees is a bimonthly coupon publication, distrubuted on the top of Papa John’s Pizza boxes. Freebees offers coverage across Brevard County, FL including the Suntree/Viera, Melbourne and Palm Bay areas. For more information please call (321) 225-1937.

Help the web rid itself of IE6

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

Unless you have been under a rock for the last few years, you are aware of all the exploits and hacks that IE6 is susceptible to. Its shoddy engine has been the bane of web designers for years. The number of css hacks that have arisen because of this particular version of Internet Explorer are innumerable. Countless IE-only style sheets have been created to deal with this application’s quirks and foibles.

Even today IE6 is still in use by many computers. Help spread the word that IE6 is terrible and point ignorant users in the right direction. This isn’t a “spread firefox” campaign, at this point the web would prefer that users pick any new browser over the outdated IE6.

Visit the website for copy and paste code that you can use to alert users of IE6 that its time for them to join the rest of the web and upgrade their browsing experience.

Tough economy, coupon use on the rise

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Freebees - Coupons and great deals in Brevard, FLI’m proud to announce my latest project, a coupon magazine named Freebees. In light of the hard time everyone is having economically, coupon usage is on the rise as more people try to stretch that dollar. Locally there was a need for a decent coupon magazine. The concept behind Freebees is simple. Fill the magazine with free stuff. Make it dirt cheap to buy a page, but make the client offer a decent coupon. The result? A book of great deals and savings that couponers will actually use. None of those lame “5% off” coupons here.

I felt the coupon cover should get your attention and make it very clear what is inside. A good amount of time was spent creating the Freebees mascot / logo. The intent was to create a jovial looking little bee. Ultimately, I like the resulting bee character – even if he does look overly enthusiastic about some coupons.

This bimonthly publication distributes 10,000 issues by collaborating with Papa John’s to include the magazine on the tops of pizza boxes and other traditional distribution methods. Its a tiny little thing too – about the size of an Iphone. See it for yourself.

Free? Nothing is free.

Free Xbox? No way! While searching for an image I happened across a blog discussing free Xboxes, iPods and iPhones. Free Xboxes and iPhones? Preposterous! The blog had a link to some random youth pastor that chronicled the time line of events that led up to his receiving a free Xbox.

Naturally, the skeptic in me needed to see proof. Sure enough, there was a photo of him sitting smugly behind his newly unwrapped Xbox.

“He probably bought it and took a photo of it to scam us.” I thought to myself.

After reading more, I discovered links to youtube videos of CNN, MSNBC, Fox, Wired and G4 reports about these “freebie” websites and how they work. More reading revealed that the process was quite simple.

  1. Create an account
  2. Sign up for one of their free trial offers from various big-name companies like Netflix, Blockbuster, Gamefly etc.
  3. Keep or cancel your free subscription at the end of the trial period.
  4. Get 9 others to sign up for a free trial too.

Well, hell. I’m convinced. So off I went, created an account – and signed up for the free stamps.com offer. What a great trial offer, you just download their software and enjoy the free postage printing service for a few weeks. A free xbox and stamps? What has this world come to?

Try it out yourself and send me a photo of you and your new Xbox.

Flock This

Flock me!

Flock is a browser. Its basically Firefox with some useability features and a new skin. The addons tie into the whole “web 2.0″ movement. This article was published using Flock’s built in blogging feature. If your site runs compatible blogging software, you simply enter your website address, username and pass, and begin writing. Your bookmarks can be tagged, and are stored and shared online – Deli.cio.us style.

Is this the next revolutionary browser? Does it make me want to drop Firefox? No.

The target audience is clearly the geek elite, with little benefits to a casual internet user. Flock simply makes it easier for those obsessed with recording every little thing to a blog.

Content is King

Content Is KingVideo, internet, blogs. It’s all great and now we can all be citizen journalists, but who cares?

Wow, I have just discovered Current.tv and the world is about to change.

From their site:

“Current is a new, independent cable and satellite TV network,
available in 20 million homes around the United States — and
growing. Current is about what’s going on.

We follow the global pulse via Google Current, a real-time view of
what the world’s searching for, presented every half-hour around the
clock.

We slice the rest of the schedule into short pods — each just a few
minutes long — that range far and wide, from international
dispatches to profiles of cool people to intelligence on new trends.
This is not a traditional TV network; watching Current, you’ll see
more, on more topics, from more points of view.

And much of it comes straight from you.”

A media outlet where the common person can share their views, Current is an amazing concept, and many content producers are jumping at the chance to see their work air beofre a global audience.

And yet, amid theis new age of mass-communication, what does that all mean for you and I? If we can all create the story, then what are we watching? Is it relevant? Is it noise? Does anyone care?

Powered by Google, the Internet, search engine, “wonder of the modern age”, we see what is relelvant by what people are searching for. And the Current feeds you video articles based on what people want to see.

But, does that mean, a video on eBay’ shottest selling Barbies? No, silly, it’s all about News.

The what of the story is more important than the shot. Yes, upcoming video-producer, you’ve got the Current Survival Guide to tell us all how to technically produce items that one day just might see some air, but more often than not, *content* is what will get a call from a producer. (No, not you, a TV producer).

So what do we cover? What do we write about? What do we shoot? Cover what moves you, what you’re passionate about, what you care about.

If you’re an idealist like me, then hey it’s easy right? Nope. Just because I spend half of my office time reading about events, subscribe to a jillion newsletters and think I have a pulse on the community, it doesn’t mean I can write about something that anybody but me will give 2
cents to see.

To make relvant content, like any effort worth starting, it takes a team of people. Rather than trying to be all things to all peeps, why don’t we all work together to refine content that people want to see?

For just this reason, I started this newsgroup on the Current site called Got Content? Are you writer or idea person wanting to be a part of the revolution? Do you have Content? If yes, then visit the group and contact us.

I am blessed or cursed with the Long View. I can see for miles. With the long view, I care about what we’re doing and why we’re doing it. I care about building a relationship that will last years, not for one measly bit that gets aired.

If you think the same way, then work with us. If you’re interested in what Google is doing with Current.TV, then visit these links below. A Brave New World, one where stories are made from the people on up, not written by a handful of media conglomos is approaching. And we need you.

Not Again!?Another reader told me she checks the site daily but finds nothing new. This is for her.

Why wasn’t I warned these critters go at it like rabbits? They never tell you about these things when you first pick them up. Looking through the manual over and over again and provides little relief. Nope, nothing in there about the prolific Chihuahua libido.

Yoshi managed to force his way through her chastity harness and sow his oats – again. $1000 and many hours later I’m the proud grandfather of another set of puppies.

Its as if she knew it was to be her last litter and she wanted it to go off with a bang, well it did. Three puppies (one more than usual) proved to be far to much for her to pass naturally and thus required an emergency doggy c-section. Luckily, I live 3 minutes away from a 24 hour animal hospital. Admitted at 11pm and released at 3am she went through surgery like a little champ and has healed quite nicely. And now, PUPPY FEST 05!

GreenOrlando Launches

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2005

GreenOrlandoRecently, I have had the honor be a part of and help develop a couple of great, local, grassroots projects, GreenOrlando.com and GreenBrevard.com. GreenOrlando is more than a website, an eMagazine or a blog. So many people work for the benefit of the community, more than most people are aware of. Our goal is to tell your story, to pull together all the amazing things that goes on and thereby reveal how unique Florida really is. Imagined and built by Giant3, The GreenOrlando site gathers relevant stories, interviews and spotlights sorted by categories, each addressing a particular community. By doing so, we paint a big picture of the diverse landscape that is Central Florida.

GreenOrlando is published online and updated frequently. We exist to provide a forum for the community as it grapples with its present and future. We have no political affiliations or motivations, and see the need for dialogue, awareness and consensus-building on local issues. We live here and love Central Florida, and want future generations to love our community as well. As you feel led, write to us, contribute your opinions and get involved. Send us your historic photos, write an article or share your frustrations, so that together we can keep our communities healthy, vital and growing without sacrificing the quality of life that brought (or kept) us here.

GreenOrlando is committed to helping preserve and improve the quality of life available to all residents of Central Florida. Its mission is to help individuals, families, businesses and organizations reach their fullest potential and accomplish their evolving goals. This mission is expressed through eight quality of life aspects that are held in dynamic tension: Art, Balance, Ethics, Faith, Fitness, Nature, Teamwork and Sustainability.
